Take Away the Car Keys

Greetings, dear friends!
Here is a post from DailyKos website. The last paragraph caught my eye. My opinion: Yes! Yes! Yes! Pry those car keys out of the hands of our wreckless "president." Surely his license will expire in about 8 weeks. He must not be allowed to renew.

Welcome to Iraq, Mr. President

In case anyone forgets what this election is (or should be ) about.

Even as the 2004 political campaign continues to focus on refighting the Vietnam War, one thing is certain: whoever wins the presidency will have other priorities. It will be the war in Iraq, the war that this generation of Americans is actually fighting and dying in, that George W. Bush or John Kerry will have to confront. Either man will have to do so at a time when Iraq poses difficult, perhaps even impossible, options for United States policymakers.

In terms of policy, it is in no way clear that the president and Senator Kerry are all that far apart on Iraq. What is clear, even in the depths of a political campaign, is that many hard choices await the winner -- and he won't have much time to make them. There is a broad consensus that Iraq has reached what the military calls an inflection point, a crucial period when things could get a lot worse or a lot better very quickly. The next administration's first decisions may well determine the outcome.

Bad choices and badder choices. But one of the candidates put us there (the voters are clear on that). I wonder how Bush will run away from that? And how will Dems (not just Kerry) clarify the situation on the ground? Do you leave the car keys with the guy who drove us into the ditch? Or do you take them away and turn the driving over to a grown-up?
